Once again we attended this event as ‘Official Press’ thanks to Showmasters !!!!
Held at the Cardiff Motorpoint Arena the home of South Wales geekery – during the weekend of 8th & 9th of March 2019.
Guests that attended this weekends event included:-
Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street)
Mark Williams (Harry Potter)
Lawrence Gillard Jnr (The Walking Dead)
Julian Glover (Game of Thrones)
Colin Baker (Doctor Who)
And many more!
As in previous years this weekend event offered Autograph & Photo opportunities with stars from TV & Film covering a wide variety of interests and genres alongside other fun attractions and activities; some of which are detailed below.
- Cosplay Zone. This zone is usually a massive part of this event and this year was no different with a dedicated cosplay area and cosplay stage hosting several talks and masquerade competitions. There were also professional cosplay quests in attendance each having a specialist skill set from armour work & sewing to SFX make up & electronics. Also there was a chance for cosplayers to have professional photographs taken.
- Gaming Zone. At this zone all the games were free to play, and attendances had the opportunity to enter mini-tournaments. This year included a Yu-Gi-Oh! tournament.
- Comic Zone. It was great to see some guest comic artists back to the event this year how-ever this was not a full-blown return of the comic zone that has appeared in previous years.
- Talks/Q&A’s. There were also specialist talks and Q&A panels throughout the weekend with the stars on a dedicated ‘Main Stage’. These included a talk with Robert Englund which we attended on the Saturday.
There was also opportunity to get yourself a professional photo on the Stranger Things sofa and with the Harry Potter ‘Ford Anglia‘ with star Mark Williams.
Overall;
There was a steady turn-out for the Cardiff event this year with a stellar line up covering a mix of fandoms.
The layout of this years event has changed slightly from previous years, with the cosplay zone being moved to the ground floor. This created a more lively atmosphere on the main con floor as attendees were not spread over three floors as in previous years.
The crew (who are mainly volunteers) were friendly and helpful as always. The con seemed to run very smoothly and efficiently.
This was a fun event as usual and we can’t wait for the next one which has been announced for 7th and 8th of September 2019 with guests including David Gooderson.
