Saw Reboot ‘Spiral’ Delayed Due To Coronavirus

Lionsgate have delayed the upcoming installment of the Saw film series Spiral due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The studio made this announcement on the Saw movie official Instagram page today.

The film was originally scheduled to be released in the United States on May 15, 2020, but due to the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic, the film was temporarily removed from the release schedule.

Spiral: From The Book of Saw, or simply Spiral, is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, written by Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger, based on a story by Chris Rock.

It is the ninth installment in the Saw film series and stars Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Max Minghella, Marisol Nichols and Zoie Palmer.

Lionsgate’s officially released synopsis of the upcoming film reads

“Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner William Schenk (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly trapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.”

Lionsgate also shifted a number of movies originally scheduled for this year pre-coronavirus to next year and beyond.

John Wick 4 will no longer open on May 21, 2021 against Warner Bros. Keanu Reeves’ Matrix 4, rather May 27, 2022.

In this current climate of constant changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many other major titles have been taken off the schedule and adjusted in recent weeks including Universal’s Fast & Furious entry Fast 9, Candyman and Minions: The Rise of Gru, MGM’s James Bond follow-up No Time to Die, DC‘s Wonder Woman 1984 and The Batman, Paramount‘s The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run ,Sony‘s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Morbius, Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 and Disney‘s Mulan, Black Widow And MCU Phase 4 Installments.
