X-Men ’97 trailer released

Disney has released the first trailer for X-Men ’97 and confirmed a March 20, 2024 release date on Disney Plus.

The trailer reveals how the X-Men pick up the pieces following the apparent death of Professor X at the end of the original, much-loved ‘90s animated show.

Several original cast members return, including Cyclops, Wolverine, Gambit, Storm, Bishop, Beast, and Rogue. In Professor X’s absence, Cyclops appears to be in charge, until Magneto turns up with a claim on everything Charles Xavier owned.

X-Men ’97 revisits the iconic era of the 1990s as The X-Men, a band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future. The voice cast includes Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, JP Karliak as Morph, Lenore Zann as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, AJ LoCascio as Gambit, Holly Chou as Jubilee, Isaac Robinson-Smith as Bishop, Matthew Waterson as Magneto and Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler. Beau DeMayo serves as head writer; episodes are directed by Jake Castorena, Chase Conley and Emi Yonemura. Featuring music by The Newton Brothers, the series is executive produced by Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and DeMayo.

Men ’97 will bring back a host of beloved characters, it’s taking the mutants into uncertain times too. After all, the original show wrapped with an episode that saw a dying Xavier head off to the Shi’ar homeworld, leaving his powered-up family behind.

“This season is very much about what happens when the X-Men are faced with a future they didn’t expect,” X-Men ’97 showrunner Beau DeMayo recently told Empire.

X-Men ’97 comes out ahead of Deadpool and Wolverine, the MCU’s only movie set for release this year.
