Renny Harlin officially set to direct upcoming The Strangers sequel

Madelaine Petsch, Froy Gutierrez and Gabriel Basso have been tapped to star in a Lionsgate remake of the 2008 horror The Strangers, which has entered production in Slovakia.

Renny Harlin has officially be announced to be directing the film, which will be the first in a trilogy. News first broke of the upcoming remakes last month with Harlin being rumoured to be attached shortly after.

News broke yesterday that one of the greatest entries in the home-invasion subgenre of horror – The Strangers is set to get three new sequels – which are currently in development.

During Bloody Disgusting’s The Boo Crew Podcast, producer Roy Lee stated: “I think the next three are in production next month with another filmmaker that people will know.”

The 2008 slasher The Strangers written and directed by Bryan Bertino is widely considered one of the greatest entries in the home-invasion subgenre of horror.

In 2018 The Strangers: Prey at Night, directed by Johannes Roberts was released to mixed reviews from critics.

A new report has claimed that there are three sequels in the franchise that are all heading into development.

‘The Strangers’ getting new limited-edition Blu-Ray release in the UK

The Strangers is a 2008 American psychological horror film written and directed by Bryan Bertino. The plot follows Kristen (Liv Tyler) and James (Scott Speedman) whose stay at a vacation home is disrupted by three masked criminals who infiltrate the home. The screenplay was inspired by two real-life events: the Manson family Tate murders, a multiple homicide, as well as a series of break-ins that occurred in Bertino’s neighbourhood as a child. Some journalists noted similarities between the film and the Keddie cabin murders that occurred in Keddie, California in 1981, though Bertino did not cite this as a reference. This modern horror favourite is getting a new limited-edition BluRay release in the UK from Second Sight Films.
