The first trailer for 28 Years Later (the second sequel to 2002’s 28 Days Later), from director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland’s arrived  today after Sony dropped a poster last week, followed by a cryptic SOS teaser. Star of the original film Cillian Murphy also returns.

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ sequel in the works

Following the successful relaunch of the Scream franchise, Sony Pictures is looking to blow new life in to its own slasher franchise as sources tell Deadline that Jennifer Kaytin Robinson has been tapped to direct a I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. in talks to reprise their roles. Insiders say the project is still early development and that Neal H. Moritz is in talks to return as producer with Leah McKendrick on board to write the script.

Sony Pictures has announced the “return of the original ‘Karate Kid’ franchise” to the big screen by dating a new Karate Kid movie for June 7, 2024.

The 2024 movie does not yet have a synopsis from the studio or a cast and crew attached.

Sony changes upcoming Madame Web/Insidious 5 release dates

The upcoming Spider-Man spinoff film Madame Web will swing into theaters a little later than previously announced.

Sony has moved the release date to Oct. 6, 2023, three months later than the previously announced July 2023 date.

Also on board are Emma Roberts, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced and Tahar Rahim with S.J. Clarkson directing. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the screenplay, with Kerem Sanga writing an earlier draft.

Sony’s ‘Morbius’ release delayed further

Sony Pictures will move the release of ‘Morbius’ by three months, the studio said on Monday. The film, part of Sony’s Spider-Man cinematic universe (not to be confused with Disney’s MCU), will debut on April 1, 2022 instead of on Jan. 28.

‘Ghostbusters – Ultimate Collection’ announced

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has not only officially announced their Ghostbusters: Afterlife 4K, Blu-ray and DVD release, but a jam-packed box set that has some brand new special features.

We’ve already received several Ghostbusters releases, but the forthcoming Ghostbusters Ultimate Collection is truly loaded with new extras, including an extremely rare 114-minute “Preview Cut” of the original film (presented in Standard Definition) and lost Dana Barrett audition footage with several prominent actresses that all lost out to Sigourney Weaver. The “Preview Cut” of the film is said to be an unearthed early cut of the film with “alternate takes, additional scenes, early effects” and more. It’s unclear the depth of the changes, but it could include some of the newly-discovered footage included on the Steelbook release.
