Former EastEnders star Sam Strike will play the lead role in the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel currently titled ‘Leatherface’.

News broke yesterday (via his agents twitter) that the British actor had won a role in a high-profile Hollywood blockbuster.

This led to many fans and media outlets speculating that it could be the Marvels  Cinematic Universe rebooted Spider-Man.

However, The Wrap reports that Strike will play ‘Jackson’, the teenager who grows up to become the murderous chainsaw wielding Leatherface.

French directors Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, are directing the latest installment of the franchise.

 

 

 

 

 

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre series began in 1974 with Tobe Hooper‘s low-budget cult hit.

The franchise spawned six more films;

• The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986).
• Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990).
• Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1994) – The franchises first attempt at a remake.
  
• The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) – Remake.
• The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006) – Prequel of the remake.
• Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013) – This installment was set as a direct sequel to the original 1974 film.

The film is expected to serve as an origin story that follows Leatherface’s early years in the 197s.

As a fan of the franchise I am looking forward to the next installment and seeing Sam’s portrayal of Leatherface. However I am slightly disappointed that this film wont be picking up where the 2013 installment left off.
