Horror Month: Interview with Robert Mukes (House of 1000 Corpses)

Horror Month – June 2015

We spoke with Robert Mukes – known for playing the character of Rufus T Firefly in Rob Zombie’s 2003 directorial debut House of 1000 Corpses.

Rob Zombie is a very cool, mellow, relaxed director who is open to suggestions and ideas and is very easy to work with. I’ve asked many other directors for weapons…  I asked him for a gun and he said, “sure, you can have the sheriff’s gun”

Horror Month: Interview with Penelope Sudrow (A Nightmare on Elm Street 3)

Horror Month – June 2015

IMG_0492We recently spoke to Penelope Sudrow who is best known for her role as Freddy Krueger victim Jennifer in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3.

“I am truly grateful and blessed to be a part of this film Nightmare On Elm St III”

IMG_0490What was your experiences like working on A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) Well, there were a lot of experiences working on nightmare. From the first thing I did was go down to the special effects warehouse and get a full body plaster from head to toe.

That was interesting & I can remember it like yesterday for some reason.

Other than that, for me, it was very much a job. I started working professionally in show business at age 6.

By the time I got Nightmare, I was actually getting a little burned out (pardon the pun, gee I just realized the irony of that comment considering what my character does to herself to stay awake…Hmmm).

Also, because it was a low budget film, there was not a lot of hanging around time as there can be on bigger budget sets. On a lower budget, you just cannot afford to waste time, so I just remember going to the set, doing my job and going home. I lived very close to where we filmed too. Most of the interior shots of the hospital were filmed at the VA hospital in Brentwood where I lived & was raised. Also, in spite of the fact that I grew up in show business, i was actually pretty shy, so i just kind of stayed to myself at that time mostly. Continue reading

Review: Poltergeist

MV5BMjIzNTI1ODgwM15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwMDYwODA1NTE@._V1__SX692_SY315_

Poltergeist is a 2015 American 3D supernatural horror film directed by Gil Kenan, written by David Lindsay-Abaire and produced by Sam Raimi.

This film is the latest Hollywood reboot and is a remake of Steven Spielberg‘s and Tobe Hoopers 1982 film of the same name.

The film has been released worldwide today (22nd May 2015).

The film stars Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Saxon Sharbino, Kyle Catlett and Kennedi Clements as the Bowen family move in to their house which unbeknownst to them is possessed by evil spirits.

The iconic house and location is imitated well by the film; the only adjustment being bringing the film into the present; incorporating more modern elements such as the use of GPS technology and a TV reality star (Jared Harris).

Ben: This looked and felt very digital and I would prefer if the film-makers had held onto more of the charm of the original. However I enjoyed the performance of Sam Rockwell as out-of-work father Eric and Jared Harris is the slightly comical paranormal investigator Carrigan Burke. 3/5

Lewis: I found the film used CGI to much making it look on times tacky. The original managed to create supernatural occurrences without this technology and still provided a vision astounding cult classic. Also I found the portrayal of ‘Madison’  this films version of ‘Carol Anne’ (portrayed by the late Heather O’Rourke) flat and on times wooden. If you want to see this film done properly watch the original !!!!!! 1/5

If you like Horror articles, reviews and more check out our Horror Month running throughout June. We have interviews with horror genre icons and much much more !!!!!!!!

The original Poltergeist is available now on Amazon.

The story of ‘Shooting Clerks (Kevin Smith Biopic) – A Thank-You’

Written by Benjamin Gummery

We spend a lot of time on this blog talking about other people’s projects; however this post is about a personal passion project of mine.

shootingclerksI was really inspired by Scottish Indie film-makers AuldReekieMedia (namely director Christopher Downie & producer Brett Murray who started making YouTube shorts based on works, life & times of writer/director Kevin Smith. Smith is probably my favourite director of all time…I have always loved listening to his Q&As, podcasts and commentary tracks; especially the stories behind making such cult films as Clerks.  But now…these guys are bringing these stories to life in film in such an accurate and respectful way.

kevinsmith_micI even started off the blog properly with my first major article which featured Auld Reekie Media; ‘Kevin Smith, Podcasts & the power of Fandom’ so it has been part of the journey of the blog all along. I pick up their story later on with the release of the trailer for ‘Shooting Clerks’; a feature-length biopic of Kevin Smith focussing on the production of the film Clerks, a story I have always loved.

This led me to thinking how I could practically help out the project further with the resources at my disposal. I had already made contact with some of the original Clerks cast members for interviews and I knew a few other people from the project so putting together some kind of long-distance video project seemed feasible. This led to the idea of ‘Shooting Clerks (Kevin Smith Biopic) – A Thank-You’.
