In this current climate of constant changes, with release schedules for movies being postponed by studios everywhere, Warner Bros. has shaken up their release calendar for many of its upcoming films — including The Batman.
The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson and directed by Matt Reeves, was originally expected to debut June 25, 2021 and will now launch on Oct. 1, 2021.
The cast for The Batman also includes Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, John Turturro as crime boss Carmine Falcone, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred. Peter Sarsgaard and Jayme Lawson is also on the call sheet.
The Carver twins have also joined the DC film in undisclosed roles.
Other Warner Bros. titles that were part of Monday’s announcement included The Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark, which is being being delayed from Sept. 25, 2020, to March 12, 2021.
The release of King Richard, the biopic starring Will Smith as Richard Williams, father of tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams, is being delayed a full year, from Nov. 25, 2020, to Nov. 19, 2021, the heart of awards season.
And the studio’s untitled Elvis film will move from Oct. 1, 2021, to Nov. 5, 2021.
The studio has also rescheduled two of its DCEU superhero movies. The Flash moved forward a month, and is now set for June 2, 2022 instead of July 1.
Meanwhile, Shazam 2 is hitting the big screen seven months later than anticipated and will launch on Nov. 4, 2022 instead of April 1.
Aside from Warner Bros. many other major titles that have been taken off the schedule in recent weeks include Universal’s Fast & Furious entry Fast 9, Candyman and Minions: The Rise of Gru, MGM’s James Bond follow-up No Time to Die, DC‘s Wonder Woman 1984, Sony‘s Ghostbusters and Morbius, Paramount‘s The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run and Disney‘s Mulan, Black Widow And MCU Phase 4 Installments.
