Although cinemas in the UK are set to open from Ma, there are still some major movies that will skip cinemas for online and streaming releases. Godzilla Vs Kong is one of them – due to arrive on US screens on 31 March, as well as hitting the US-only HBO Max streaming service for a month on the same day, but without a UK release plan announced. Now, it’s been confirmed that UK fans won’t have to wait to see it.
Warner Bros has confirmed that Godzilla Vs Kong will be available to rent in the UK from Thursday 1 April (no, it’s not an April Fool – or, at least we hope the film itself won’t be), just one day after it’s US launch. This kind of premium paid rental is the same approach Warner Bros has taken with several of its other films – including Wonder Woman 1984, Judas And The Black Messiah, The Witches and The Little Things, though it was recently confirmed that HBO Max’s Zack Snyder’s Justice League has been snapped up for release on Sky Cinema / Now TV on 18 March.
The film is directed by Adam Wingard and the cast includes Demián Bichir, Brian Tyree Henry, Zhang Ziyi, Eiza Gonzalez, Lance Reddick, Jessica Henwick, and Julian Dennison. Max Borenstein, who wrote Godzilla and Skull Island, wrote the Godzilla vs. Kong script with Black Widow scribe Eric Pearson.
