Courteney Cox gives insight into Scream sequel

Paramount and Spyglass’ upcoming Scream sequel is currently shrouded in mystery with the plot being kept under wraps.

Courteney Cox will reprise her role as news reporter Gale Weathers in the film and during an interview has given an insight into the upcoming sequel.

During an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show she stated:

“This is the fifth one… it’s not Scream 5, though. This is Scream. The directors are incredible, they’re making it absolutely… it’s a new franchise.

“It’s hip. It’s scary. It’s just a new Scream. It’s not a reboot, it’s not a remake, it’s just a brand new launch. I think it’s gonna be fantastic.”

There were rumblings of a fifth Scream movie shortly after Scream 4 hit theaters in 2011. But when the movie failed to truly perform at the box office, those came to a halt. And as the franchises pivoted to TV with an MTV series, director/writer Wes Craven passed away in 2015.

Directors Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are helming the reboot from a script by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick with Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak producing for Spyglass.

Scream franchise architect Kevin Williamson will serve as EP. The filmmaking group Radio Silence will direct and the third member of the Radio Silence trio, Chad Villella, will executive produce alongside Williamson.

This upcoming installment will see the return of other legacy cast member. Neve Campbell will reprise her role as Sidney Prescott, David Arquette, reprising his role as Dewey Riley and Marley Shelton is also heading back to Woodsboro, reprising the role of Deputy Judy Hicks that she first played in Wes Craven’s Scream 4.

Franchise newcomers Jenna Ortega, Melissa BarreraJack Quaid, Dylan Minnette, Mason Gooding, Kyle GallnerJasmin Savoy Brown and Mikey Madison will also being starring in the upcoming sequel.

Scream is set for a Jan 14th 2022 release date.

Spyglass Media will also be developing the upcoming Hellraiser Reboot.
