Ryan Murphy’s ‘American Horror Stories’ & ‘American Crime Story’ spin-offs renewed.

Ryan Murphy’s ‘American Horror Story’ spin off ‘American Horror Stories’ has been renewed for a second season on FX & Hulu. The first season debuted in July, with the seventh and final episode of the season set to drop on Aug. 19th. Season 2 is expected to debut in 2022.

‘American Horror Stories’ is a weekly anthology series that tells a different horror story in each episode. The series has featured a number of cast members who have previously appeared on ‘American Horror Story’ including Matt Bomer, Dylan McDermott, John Carroll Lynch, Billie Lourd, and Cody Fern. Newcomers to the franchise in Season 1 include Danny Trejo, Kevin McHale, Amy Grabow, and more.

The season finale of American Horror Stories leads into American Horror Story: Double Feature, which will be the 10th season of the FX anthology series. Originally scheduled to premiere in late 2020, its production was delayed as result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The season is scheduled to premiere on August 25, 2021. American Horror Story has been renewed through to Season 13 at FX.

Along with the AHS shows, Murphy and company also have the third season of ‘American Crime Story’ on the way. The new season, “Impeachment,” will focus on the affair between Monica Lewinsky and President Bill Clinton. Beanie Feldstein is playing Lewinsky, while Clive Owen plays Clinton. Murphy’s mainstay actress, Sarah Paulson, will play Linda Tripp. A  trailer was released earlier this week.

FX also announced today that the fourth installment of the series is in development. ‘Studio 54: American Crime Story’ will tell the story of Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager, who in 1977 turned their Midtown Manhattan disco into an international mecca of nightlife for the rich and famous and commoners alike — renowned for its lavish parties, music, sex and open drug use. With Rubell and Schrager’s meteoric rise came their epic fall less than three years later when the impresarios were convicted of tax fraud.

Murphy has also announced two new ‘American Story’ spinoff anthologies American Sports Story and American Love Story at FX.

American Sports Story will expand the franchise to re-examine a prominent event involving a sports figure through the prism of today’s world and will tell the story from multiple perspectives. The first season will be based on the Boston Globe and Wondery podcast Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc. It will chart the rise and fall of the former New England Patriots tight end who was convicted for murder and ultimately took his own life. Thematically, it will explore the disparate strands of his identity, his family, his career, his suicide and their legacy in sports and American culture. Stu Zicherman (The Americans) will pen the script and exec produce the series alongside Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Alexis Martin Woodall and Wondery’s Hernan Lopez and Marshall Lewy and The Boston Globe’s Linda Pizutti Henry and Ira Napoliello.

American Love Story, meanwhile, will chart the whirlwind courtship and marriage of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette. What started out as a beautiful union for the young couple, widely regarded as American royalty, began to fray under the stress of the relentless microscope and navel gaze of tabloid media. The pressures of their careers and rumored family discord ended with their tragic deaths when his private plane crashed into the ocean on a hazy summer night off the coast of Massachusetts. Murphy, Falchuk, Jacobson, Simpson and Woodall exec produce. A writer has not yet been announced.
