Former Batwoman star Ruby Rose (they/she pronouns) has made a series of allegations about their time on the CW series on social media — including that they were forced off the show.

In an Instagram Story Rose shared on Wednesday, they claimed that rather than leaving the show of their own choice at the end of season one, Rose was forced off. The actor also said they were forced back to work just 10 days after a serious surgery and that working conditions on set were unsafe, resulting in serious injuries to crew members.

Rose said in a statement at the time:

“I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season. This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles. I am beyond appreciative to Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity, but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created. Thank you Peter Roth and Mark Pedowitz and the teams at Warner Bros. and The CW who put so much into the show and always believed in me. Thank you to everyone who made season one a success – I am truly grateful.”

Now more than a year later, Rose they broken her silence. In a lengthy post on Instagram stories, Rose unloaded on the reasons why they really left Batwoman.

“Enough is enough,” Rose wrote in her first post, which was addressed to the CW, Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries, and Berlanti Productions Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.

“I’m going to tell the whole world what really happened on that set. I will come for you so what happened to me never happens to another person again. And so I can finally take back my life and the truth. Shame on you.”

Rose, who had had surgery for a stunt injury they had suffered, included footage of their surgery in their post, saying they was forced to return to work by former head of Warner Bros. TV Peter Roth.

Rose alleged Roth threatened they into returning by claiming they would cost the production “millions” and that “the whole crew and cast would be fired.” Rose also accused Roth of inappropriate behaviour toward women on the set, and alleges he had Rose investigated by a PI after they left the series.

Rose also detailed what they described as unsafe working conditions on-set, including serious injuries to a Batwoman crew member who received “third degree burns over his whole body” during production. Rose also blamed the work conditions for causing serious injuries to other crew members, and slammed the show for “ruin[ing] Kate Kane.”

She concluded by asking fans to stop asking if they would ever return to the show:

“I wouldn’t return for any amount of money nor if a gun were to my head. NOR DID I QUIT. I DID NOT QUIT. They ruined Kate Kane and they destroyed Batwoman, not me. I followed orders, and if I wanted to stay I was going to have to sign my rights away. Any threats, any bullying tactics or blackmail will not make me stand down.”

Javicia Leslie signed on to play the title role ahead of season two, although not the same character as Rose’s Kate Kane. Leslie plays Ryan Wilder, who takes on the mantle of Batwoman.

Wallis Day joined the show midway through season two as an “altered version” of Kate, who suffered injuries in a plane crash at the start of the season.

The third season of Batwoman was announced in February 2021 and premiered on The CW on October 13, 2021.
