American actor Peter Scolari, has died aged 66 of cancer, after a two-year illness.
Scolari was a prolific actor, both on television and on Broadway – rising to stardom on the tv show Bosom Buddies alongside Tom Hanks.
His death was confirmed by his manager Ellen Lubin Sanitsky at Wright Entertainment.
He won an Emmy in 2016 for his portrayal of Tad Horvath on Girls.
From 1987-1989, he was nominated three times for supporting actor Emmys for his role as Michael Harris on Newhart.
In recent years, Scolari had recurring roles on dramas such as Evil, Gotham and FX’s Fosse/Verdon.
In Gotham Scolari plays Gillian Loeb the corrupt former commissioner of the Gotham City Police Department.
During his career, he also enjoyed a famed career in theater after starring in such as Broadway’s Hairspray, Lucky Guy, and Wicked.
