Star Wars actor Christopher Muncke who portrayed Captain Khurgee in A New Hope has died age 79.
The announcement was made by his son Sam on Facebook.
“We are heartbroken to announce that Chris Muncke passed away yesterday morning. We already miss his warm smile, his sharp wit, his amazing storytelling and his unconditional love.”
Originally from Chicago, Muncke joined The Second City as a Theatrical Apprentice in 1960. He received a degree in Dramatic Art from the University of California. In 1967 he moved to London and attended the Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art and co-founded the London Theatre Group in 1970 with Steven Berkoff.
He portrayed Captain Edmos Khurgee, the scanning crew leader and pilot, in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.
He also appeared in The Spy Who Loved Me alongside fellow Star Wars actors Anthony Forrest and Garrick Hagon.
Following his retirement from acting he became a primary school teacher in Hertfordshire, a second career that would last over 20 years until he retired in 2007.
Muncke appeared at many conventions and shows, meeting many Star Wars fans around the globe.
