The annual Monsterpalooza American multigenre convention has taken place at the Pasadena Convention Center this weekend. During the event news has emerged online regarding Neve Campbell‘s involvement (or lack of) in the upcoming Scream 6.
Several attendees have posted online that Campbell has stated she will not be involved in the upcoming Scream 6 after reading the script as it “it didn’t do Sidney justice”.
It is worth noting that nothing has been confirmed officially and this could be a misdirect something that the franchise is known for during production.
Campbell rose to international prominence for starring as Sidney Prescott in Wes Craven‘s slasher film Scream (1996), which emerged as a critical and commercial success—the highest grossing slasher film for over 20 years, it obtained a cult following and spawned the Scream franchise, where she reprised the character in the series’ second (1997), third (2000), fourth (2011) and fifth (2022) installments; although critical reception has varied with each film, Campbell has consistently earned praise for her work, and is one of the genre’s highest-grossing and acclaimed heroines of all time.
Original cast member Courteney Cox has already confirmed that she’s returning for the sixth entry in the iconic slasher franchise alongside Hayden Panettiere reprising her role from 2011’s Scream 4.
Several cast members from Scream (2022) are also set to return Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding and Jenna Ortega will reprise their roles for the next movie.
Dermot Mulroney is the latest cast member to sign on. Mulroney, is said to be playing a cop in the movie.
Plot details are being kept under the cloak but the companies said the new feature “continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.”
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are returning to direct the franchise’s next installment, while James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick are back on scripting duties. Vanderbilt will also serve as a producer on Scream 6 with Paul Neinstein and William Sherak. Kevin Williamson is executive producing alongside Gary Barber, Peter Oillataguerre, and Chad Villella.
Fans can expect the next Scream to release in theatres worldwide on March 31, 2023.
