Star Wars Tusken Raider actor dies

Star Wars actor Bob Spiker has passed away.

Spiker was an elephant trainer who worked with George Lucas to bring the Banthas to life in Star Wars: A New Hope. While on set Bob was dressed as and played a Tusken Raider so that he could remain close to his animals while filming.

In the scenes in Star Wars: A New Hope in which the Tusken Raider is riding the Bantha, Bob is on the back of Mardji, the 22-year-old female elephant, and was her trainer (along with Alan Fernandez).

Spiker appeared at many conventions and shows, meeting many Star Wars fans around the globe. The news of his death was announced on Facebook by Imperial Signings.
