Disney is currently developing a new Haunted Mansion movie. The studio previously turned the ride into a movie in 2003 with a feature starring Eddie Murphy.
Scream Queen and horror icon Jamie Lee Curtis is set to play the infamous gypsy of the mansion Madame Leota in the upcoming film.
Rumours of this casting has been circling the web for a few months and has been confirmed via Curtis’s facebook today.
Madame Leota is a ghostly character from the The Haunted Mansion franchise. Originally conceived as a character to be featured in Disneyland’s version of the attraction, Leota’s character has been expanded, to be featured in multiple Disney attractions, as well a feature film. She was originally portrayed by Leota Toombs (whom she was named after) while Eleanor Audley voiced her.
LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Rosario Dawson, Chase Dillon and Danny DeVito have previously been announced to be starring in the project.
Jared Leto has also joined the cast. Leto is playing the “Hatbox Ghost.”
Justin Simien, is making his big-budget studio debut on Mansion, which began production last week in New Orleans and Atlanta.
The details of the story and script by Katie Dippold are being keptunder wraps.
The Haunted Mansion follows a doctor (Dawson) and her 9-year-old son (Dillon), who are looking to start a new life, move into a strangely affordable mansion in New Orleans, only to discover that the place is much more than they bargained for. Desperate for help, they contact a priest (Wilson), who, in turn, enlists the aid of a widowed scientist-turned failed-paranormal expert (Stanfield), a French Quarter psychic (Haddish), and a crotchety historian (DeVito).
Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, who produced Disney’s billion-dollar-grossing live-action Aladdin remake, are producing via their Rideback banner. Rideback’s Nick Reynolds is executive producing.
The film is scheduled for release on March 10, 2023.

The characters also find old barrels which leads to a fire starting. The trailer also showed multiple glimpses of Danny DeVito and Owen Wilson. The cast also includes Winona Ryder, Dan Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis and more. […]
