American television and film actor and director William Martin “Clu” Gulager has passed away aged 93.
Clu Gulager first became known for his work in television, appearing in the co-starring role of William H. Bonney (Billy the Kid) in the 1960–1962 NBC television series The Tall Man and as Emmett Ryker in another NBC Western series, The Virginian.
He later had a second career as a horror film actor appearing on several classic 80’s horror films, including a lead part in Dan O’Bannon‘s The Return of the Living Dead (1985). He also was in A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge (1985).
In 2005 he returned to the horror genre acting in his son’s John Gulager horror films the Feasts films and Piranha DD—in his 80s.
In 2019 Gulager was featured in the documentary Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street which examined the legacy of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge, the second installment in the A Nightmare on Elm Street film series, and the life of the film’s lead actor, Mark Patton.
Gulager’s final screen performance was as an unnamed book store owner in Quentin Tarantino‘s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 2019.
Gulager appeared at many conventions and shows over the years, meeting many fans around the globe.
