Zazie Beetz set to return in Joker: Folie à Deux

Deadline has reported that Zazie Beetz is in talks to reprise her role as Sophie Dumond in the upcoming Joker: Folie à Deux.

In the movie Sophie Dumond is a single mother struggling to make ends meet in Gotham City. Sophie lived in the same apartment block as Arthur Fleck and his mother. He had delusions of having a romance with her.

The sequel starring Joaquin Phoenix as the DC villain will be directed by Todd Phillips and we can expect a big media push from Warner Bros. after the 2019 debut of Joker, grossed around $1 billion in box office.

Joaquin Phoenix’s performance in the film won him multiple awards, including an Academy Award for Best Actor, a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, a Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Actor, a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role.

Lady Gaga has recently confirmed her casting in Joker 2 by posting a musical teaser to social media – it is highly speculated Gaga will be portraying the role of Harley Quinn.

Phillips wrote the script with Joker co-writer Scott Silver.

Phillips has previously revealed on social media the title of the new project — Joker: Folie à deux — referencing a medical term for an identical or similar mental condition that affects two or more individuals, usually members of the same family.

Warner Bros. will release “Joker: Folie à Deux” in theaters October 4, 2024.
