Brendan Gleeson has been announced as joining the cast of ‘Joker’ musical sequel ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’. Details of his role are yet to be confirmed but it expected to be a small ensemble cast.
The sequel starring Joaquin Phoenix as the DC villain will be directed by Todd Phillips and we can expect a big media push from Warner Bros. after the 2019 debut of Joker, grossed around $1 billion in box office.
Joaquin Phoenix’s performance in the film won him multiple awards, including an Academy Award for Best Actor, a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, a Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Actor, a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role.
Lady Gaga has recently confirmed her casting in Joker 2 by posting a musical teaser to social media – it is highly speculated Gaga will be portraying the role of Harley Quinn.
Zazie Beetz is also reportedly in talks to reprise her role as Sophie Dumond
Gleeson appears next in the new Searchlight film The Banshees of Inisherin hitting the festival circuit starting with its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and followed up with a Gala premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. The film reunites Gleeson with Colin Farrell and Martin McDonagh, who worked together on the dark comedy, In Bruges.
Warner Bros. will release “Joker: Folie à Deux” in theaters October 4, 2024.
