I’ve said before in reviews for ‘Short Trips’ how I feel it is a difficult and brave thing to try to fit a whole story that would usually get 2 hours in Big Finish into 40 minutes. Even the TV show gets 45 minutes. So I had just one thought when I saw the Jonathan Barnes story ‘The word beyond the Trees’ was 34.25; what balls!

Capaldi first stepped into the TARDIS in 2013, and will leave the iconic role in the 2017 Christmas special after three incredible series of the BBC’s global hit sci-fi drama.
He made the announcement on Jo Whiley’s BBC Radio 2 show tonight; speaking about the upcoming series this Spring he exclusively revealed the next series of the world’s longest running sci-fi show will be his last.

If you had told me a few years back I would be looking forward to a Torchwood Big Finish release as much as a Doctor Who, I wouldn’t have believed it. Sure the TV show was great; but it’s always Doctor Who first. But Big Finish have done such an amazing job with the Torchwood range as to make it up there with their finest Doctor Who releases.

Now this one was released during the Christmas period, but my, what a perfect way to kick of the new year!
River Song (Alex Kingston) is paired with not 1, but 2 Doctors in this set; those being 6 & 7, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy. And they manage to do it without River taking a back seat at anytime. Of course it helps when you have as strong a character as River, but it would be easy to have a writer accidentally turn it into a Doctor Who set by another name, this does not happen.

It’s difficult to know where to start with this one. There is so much going on!
So lets start with the Virgin books. It was so exciting when they got the licence. The BBC at the time in their infinite wisdom had decided as well as booting off the TV Doctor Who, that books based on it weren’t worth it either. So Virgin books stepped in with some new fresh talented writers, like Mark Gattis and Russell T Davis (I wonder what happened to those 2?). These were obsessively written by some very talented fans of the show, for the fans. As such they loved swinging for the fences. Bringing in so much Doctor Who mythology as to make Omega take a peek from the antimatter universe to see what the fuss was all about. Not that there weren’t some great additions to the DWU, Bernice Summerfield being one of the most notable.
