British-born Australian-raised singer, songwriter, actress, entrepreneur and activist Dame Olivia Newton-John AC DBE has died age 73.

Oliva’s husband, John Easterling shared an official statement on her Facebook page.
Newton-John has battled breast cancer for more than 30 years, although the rep did not give the cause of death, although a source close to Oliva told TMZ, “After a 30-year cancer journey, she lost her battle to metastatic breast cancer.”
Newton-John was a four-time Grammy Award winner whose music career includes five number-one hits and another ten top-ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100, and two Billboard 200 number-one albums, If You Love Me, Let Me Know (1974) and Have You Never Been Mellow (1975). Eleven of her singles (including two Platinum) and 14 of her albums (including two Platinum and four 2× Platinum) have been certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
With global sales of more than 100 million records, Newton-John is one of the best-selling music artists from the second half of the 20th century to the present.
In 1978, she starred in the musical film Grease, whose soundtrack remains one of the world’s best-selling albums of recorded music.
It features two major hit duets with co-star John Travolta: “You’re the One That I Want” – which ranks as one of the best-selling singles of all time – and “Summer Nights”.
Travolta took to social media to pay tribute to Newton-John, his Grease co-star. Following the release of Grease, Travolta and Newton-John remained lifelong friends. The two often reunited to celebrate the movie.
Stockard Channing released a statement via PEOPLE. The actress — who played Pink Lady Betty Rizzo alongside Newton-John’s Sandy in the 1978 musical film Grease — shared a heartfelt tribute to her costar.

“I don’t know if I’ve known a lovelier human being. Olivia was the essence of summer – her sunniness, her warmth and her grace are what always come to mind when I think of her. I will miss her enormously.”
Grease director Randal Kleiser, said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter:
“I’m Heartbroken. She was one of a kind, and so very kind. For over four decades of our freindship she exuded nothing but love to everyone she met. Olivia was exactly the way you imagined her. I will miss her forever.”
Didi Conn, who played Frenchy in Grease, told BBC’s Newsnight:
“She was such a humungous, big, big pop star and her persona was of this beauty… pure and sweet. In the movie we would call her Miss Goody Two Shoes, you know, but simmering under that façade of innocence was a hot mama ready to come out.”

In 1992 Newton-John was diagnosed with breast cancer. Newton-John received her diagnosis the same weekend her father died.
In May 2017, it was announced that Newton-John’s breast cancer had returned and metastasised to her lower back. Her back pains had initially been misdiagnosed as sciatica. Newton-John subsequently revealed this was actually her third bout with breast cancer, as she had privately battled a recurrence of the disease in 2013 in addition to her initial 1992 fight.
With the 2017 recurrence the cancer had spread to her bones and progressed to stage IV.

R.I.P., Olivia. Thank you for Xanadu which was my favorite song from you.
