20th Century D23 panel gives further Avatar: The Way Of Water announcements

Disney’s annual showcase and fan event D23 Expo is in full swing, featuring updates from the worlds of Marvel, Star Wars, Disney and more. On Saturday, 20th Century Studios shared a glimpse of their future plans during the Studio Showcase. See details of some of the projects that were announced below:


During this section of the panel – It’s time for Avatar: The Way Of Water, and director James Cameron is beaming in live from New Zealand.

Attendees at Hall D23 was given 3D glasses on arrival as the theater is converted to show the audience several new clips from the upcoming film.

Jon Landau, Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang come up on stage to discuss the second installment of the Avatar franchise.

Sigourney Weaver says that “only Jim [Cameron] is crazy enough to have written this character for me.”

Weaver plays Jake and Neytiri’s daughter in the Avatar sequel.

Avatar: The Way Of Water is currently planned for a release on December 16, 2022, with the following three sequels to be released, respectively, on December 20, 2024, December 18, 2026, and December 22, 2028.

The Avatar franchise is one of the most expensive franchises ever undertaken, with the combined budget of the first film and its four sequels estimated at $1 billion.
