Disney’s annual showcase and fan event D23 Expo is in full swing, featuring updates from the worlds of Marvel, Star Wars, Disney, 20th Century and more.
On Saturday, Marvel Studios shared a glimpse of their future plans during the Studio Showcase. See details of some of the projects that were announced below:
Marvel Studios kicked off their panel with Rogers: The Musical from Hawkeye in real life!
President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige introduced Black Panther Wakanda Forever‘s Ryan Coogler onto the stage to talk about the project.
Attendees got an exclusive look at Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It features a UN meeting-type scene with Angela Bassett’s Queen Ramonda talking about the potential danger of Vibranium, then an incredible action sequence with the Dora Milaje and Michaela Coel.
Black Panther cast members Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Tenoch Huerta and Angela Bassett join Ryan on stage. “Chadwick was with us every step of the way,” says Bassett.
Letitia Wright talks about the Black Panther family expanding, and that she’s excited about how impactful the story will be.
“I’m excited for you to go to the cinema and be proud of what we’ve done. And for my brother to be smiling down on us,” she says.
Coogler also showed attendees an exclusive first look at the upcoming Ironheart series that he is an executive producer on.
Anthony Ramos joined Coogler and Feige on stage to discuss his character Parker Robbins, aka The Hood, who deals in dark magic.
Now for the first film of Phase 5 – Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania. Stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly and Jonathan Majors take to the stage.
Feige says the events of Quantumania will directly set up Avengers: Kang Dynasty.
Randall Park will return as Jimmy Woo in the upcoming film – attendees were shown an exclusive first look clip for Quantumania, which finds Scott Lang as a famous author. Kathryn Newton’s Cassie Lang experiments, sending the gang into the Quantum Realm. Bill Murray looks resplendent. Kang is chilling, and asks Scott “Have I killed you before?”
Werewolf By Night to be directed by Michael Giacchino. This project will be released in October 7th 2022 – a completely different tone for the MCU.
Giacchino takes the stage, alongside stars Gael García Bernal and Laura Donnelly.
Don Cheadle, aka War Machine, is now on stage, talking about Secret Invasion and Armor Wars.
Secret Invasion’s storyline will lead us right into Armor Wars, which starts shooting next year.
The cast of Loki are here! Tom Hiddleston, Sophia Di Martino, Owen Wilson and new addition Key Huy Quan.
Attendees were shown a first look at Loki Season 2: Loki is back in the TVA, and is being pulled through time. “War is on its way”.
Matt Shakman to direct Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four.
An exclusive first look shows Vincent D’Onofrio returns as Kingpin in Echo.The series is a spin-off of and a sequel to Hawkeye. It is the twenty-second television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the fourth installment of Phase Five.
As the Echo cast leaves the stage Vincent D’Onofrio stayed behind – It’s Daredevil time! D’Onofrio is joined by Charlie Cox. Daredevil: Born Again is a standalone sequel to Daredevil and a direct sequel to Echo. It is the twenty-seventh television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the eleventh installment of Phase Five.
Cox says it’s “emotional” to be part of the MCU at last. They haven’t started filming Born Again yet, but attendees see a clip of Daredevil from an upcoming episode of She-Hulk.
Captain America: New World Order director Julius Onah, star Anthony Mackie and more take to the stage, including Danny Ramirez and Tim Blake Nelson, who’ll be returning to the MCU as The Leader.
Unorthodox actress Shira Haas is also joining the next Captain America movie.
“Marvel is part of cinema history, and that I get to be a part of that is an honour,” says Tim Blake Nelson.
The cast of Thunderbolts has officially been announced.
Thunderbolts is an upcoming superhero film, based on the Marvel Comics team of the same name. It is the thirty-seventh film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the final installment of Phase Five.
Thunderbolts will star Julia Louis-Dreyfuss as Val, David Harbour returns as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Hannah John-Kamen as the Ghost, Florence Pugh as Yelena, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster – and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes.
“These look like a good, troubled bunch and Bucky knows a thing about that,” says Sebastian Stan.
The film is set to be released on July 26, 2024.
And finally from Marvel, and it’s The Marvels.
Director Nia DaCosta and stars Brie Larson, Iman Vellani and Teyonnah Parris take to the stage.
The Marvels it is intended to be the sequel to Captain Marvel (2019), a continuation of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel (2022), and the 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The Marvels is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 28, 2023, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
