Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe paid tribute to his Harry Potter co-star Robbie Coltrane today, remembering the beloved actor as “one of the funniest people I’ve met.”

In a statement obtained by Deadline, Radcliffe said:

“Robbie was one of the funniest people I’ve met and used to keep us laughing constantly as kids on the set. I’ve especially fond memories of him keeping our spirits up on Prisoner of Azkaban, when we were all hiding from the torrential rain for hours in Hagrid’s hut and he was telling stories and cracking jokes to keep morale up. I feel incredibly lucky that I got to meet and work with him and very sad that he’s passed. He was an incredible actor and a lovely man.”

The Harry Potter, James Bond and Cracker star passed away in hospital near his home in Larbert, Scotland at the age of 72. The award-winning actor had been in ill health for the past two years.

The actor also gave memorable performances in movies including Nuns On The Run, Mona Lisa, From Hell and Ocean’s 12.

He was appointed an OBE in the 2006 New Year Honours by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to drama. In 1990, Coltrane received the Evening Standard British Film Award – Peter Sellers Award for Comedy. In 2011, he was honoured for his “outstanding contribution” to film at the British Academy Scotland Awards.
