Behind The Blog: It’s a Small World After All

The last few weeks have shown me it really is true what they say…the internet makes the world a whole lot smaller;  and there has been a number of exciting and unexpected developments with the blog that I would like to share with you. Continue reading

JUMP FOR EQUALITY

Fund-raising for lesbian, gay and bisexual equality charity Stonewall (the UK equivalent of It Gets Better) my partner Lewis is part of a nationwide skydive on 27th September !!!!
#Skydive25He will Jump for Equality this month, to raise money for leading lesbian, gay and bisexual equality charity Stonewall and raise money for Stonewall’s work to tackle homophobic bullying in Britain and internationally.

Jumping from Swansea airfield (in south wales), Lewis joins over forty divers from across the UK who are all taking part in the initiative. Stonewall’s #Skydive25 will celebrate the charity’s 25th anniversary. The funds raised by those taking part will help to support the charity’s international campaign.

Lewis said: ‘I am absolutely petrified about doing the jump but as Stonewall is such a worthy charity that has helped so many people over the past 25 years (myself included) I really wanted to get behind this initiative and throw myself in (literally !!!!!)

Richard Lane, media manager at Stonewall said: ‘We’re delighted to have such a huge group of jumpers, who are passionate about what Stonewall does and want to support our work. Our Challenge Events are extremely important for engaging with the community and contribute vital funds to the work that we do.’

You can support Lewis by donating to his jump via JustGiving:

Behind the Blog

‘Behind the Blog’ is a more personal feature that details some of my experiences as a blogger.

Firstly, these last few weeks since I have started writing again have been an incredible and fulfilling experience for me. I started with the article ‘Kevin Smith, Podcasts & the power of Fandom‘ which received a great response from the fan community and in general; it even got a mention from some actors from Kevin Smith’s film ‘Clerks’; which I never expected. This has really encouraged me to keep up with my writing and attempt more challenging articles. Truly, this is a dream come true for me. My fiancé, Lewis has also been incredibly supportive of my writing.

Kevin Smith, Podcasts and the power of Fandom

Kevin Smith is arguably best known for his film career as a writer/director; especially for his debut film Clerks but also Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Jersey Girl, Clerks II, Zac and Miri Make a Porno, Cop Out and Red State.

However, in recent years he has also became known in the podcast arena; appearing in several highly-rated weekly podcasts distributed by his own ‘Smodcast Internet Radio‘ Network. Smith was already well known for his public appearances and Q&A’s; some of which have been filmed and released. It therefore seemed like a logical step forward when he started his first show ‘Smodcast’ with friend and producer Scott Mosier in 2007. This led to other successful shows such as ‘Hollywood Babble-On’, ‘Jay & Silent Bob Get Old’ and ‘Fatman on Batman’.

The Relaunch……..

I have found it hard to give the blog the attention it deserves recently and so it has lapsed; apart from posting updates on the twitter account @IndieMacUser.

My hope is in the next few weeks to bring it back with some fresh new content.
I would welcome any suggestions for topics you would like me to cover and also would welcome other contributors who would like to be part of my ‘curated’ content blog offering fresh articles on a mixture of technology, music, TV, film, lifestyle and gaming.

The goal here is not to offer the usual fare of breaking stories and rumours but a more reflective look at emerging trends and the smaller but still important stories that have not had as much coverage. I also believe that the blog should cover a multitude of interests rather than being limited to just one area.

Let me know your thoughts, Watch this space!

Apple surprises everyone with easter product launch

Apple shocked pundits, bloggers and the tech press community with a surprise major product launch today; weeks ahead of even the earliest predictions based on Apple’s usual product cycle. Personally, I feel this is a brilliant piece of seasonal marketing on their part.
