Review: Fourth Doctor Adventures – Series 9 (Vol 1)

Review by Michael Goleniewski

The ninth series of the Fourth Doctor Adventures takes several different directions in terms of structure and tone. Rather than being eight hour-long stories comprised of two parts, the series is now jumping to longer adventures with four two-hour-long stories instead. It also represents a significant time jump moving into the Fourth Doctor’s time in E-Space with Romana, K-9, and Adric rather than during his time with Leela or either of the Romanas individually. It’s an interesting jump considering most of the series are going to shorter formats nowadays but it could yield some intriguing results if done well.

Review – Doctor Who – Dark Universe

Review by Jacob Licklider

Since 1989’s Survival there has always been a question of what exactly happened to Ace? She obviously didn’t appear in the TV Movie, and the expanded universe has had several explanations for what fate she underwent, ranging from death, to becoming Time’s Vigilante in Paris, and even entering the Academy on Gallifrey. Now in my personal opinion there is a way to reconcile all of these, the Time War does allow for separate fates, and now Big Finish has released Dark Universe. Continue reading

As a spin-off series, The Diary of River Song is one which has perhaps relied the most on it’s connections to Doctor Who as a parent show.  The first four series were promoted by prominently featuring the Fourth through Eighth Doctors, Series Five featured four distinct incarnations of the Master, and Series Six heavily featured the eras of the first four Doctors revisiting classic stories in prequels, mid-quels, or sequels.

Audio Review: Star Cops – Mars (Part 1)

Review by Ian McArdell

The television series of Star Cops ended with Commander Nathan Spring posing a question: “Anyone for Mars?”. Now firmly established from a base on the Moon, the ISPF’s remit was set to encompass Mars in a second series. While the show on television never quite made it, fresh from their investigation into the terrorist organisation Mother Earth’, Big Finish’s superb audio continuation of the show has finally made good on that offer. Sacha Dhawan talks about becoming ‘The Master’ on Doctor Who

Doctor Who made its triumphant return to our screens on New Years Day with Series 12, Episode 1 ‘Spyfall‘ guest starring Stephen Fry and Lenny Henry.

However, there was one big reveal on the episode that has fans talking; when the character of ‘O’ played by Sacha Dhawan was revealed to be classic Doctor Who villian ‘The Master’. The Master had not been seen since the face-off between his female incarnation ‘Missy’ and a previous incarnation (played by John Simm) during the Series 10 Finale.

Bridging the gap between Mother Earth and the latest series, Mars, Big Finish has released a Star Cops audiobook. A thriller which trades on a most precious commodity in space exploration, ‘The Stuff of Life’ looks at some of the implications of colonising the red planet and the infrastructure needed to do so.
