Ncuti Gatwa to start Doctor Who filming in November

Ncuti Gatwa is set to to start filming his first Doctor Who season this November.

The 14th season of the long running BBC series and the first starring the Sex Education star, isn’t expected to air until 2024, but there’s speculation he could also make an appearance in an anniversary special before then.

Gatwa takes over from Jodie Whittaker, whose four-year stint as the Thirteenth Doctor is due to come to an end in a special episode broadcasting this October as part of the BBC Centenary celebrations.

At least one more special episode is due to be broadcast in late 2023 to mark the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who, with previous Time Lord David Tennant returning to reprise his role.

Doctor Who is reportedly in talks with BBC bosses to bring back the show’s Christmas Day slot, which was scrapped back in 2017.

According to TV Zone, incoming showrunner Russell T Davies is leading conversations between the Doctor Who production team and the BBC to begin an annual run of Christmas specials from 2023 onwards.
