‘New Who’ 10th Anniversary

When Doctor Who came back to our TV screens in 2005 both audiences and critics were wowed as it ushered in a new era of time and space antics.

Russell T Davies was the mastermind behind the shows reintroduction and turned the programme from ‘a bit of a joke’ into TV gold over-night following a 16 year gap (not including the TV movie).

The casting of Christopher Eccleston as as the post time war doctor and Billie Piper as his companion was great casting and started the show off with a bang. Continue reading

Happy Birthday Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Buffy The Vampire Slayer first aired on American television (The WB) on March 10th 1997.

Today marks 18 years since Sarah Michelle Gellar first picked up a stake and ‘Buffy Summers’ and her ‘Scooby Gang’ began ridding Sunnydale of vampires, demons and the forces of darkness.

The supernatural drama ran for a total of seven seasons, 144 episodes; ultimately becoming one of the biggest cult shows ever.

BAFTA Cymru, IRIS Prize & Cineworld

We were lucky enough to attend a special screening at Cineworld Cardiff that was a joint venture between BAFTA Cymru and the IRIS Prize.

BAFTA Cymru has a remit to ‘champion film, television and games in Wales’ and their latest achievement has been partnering with Cineworld Cardiff with the launch of a BAFTA Cymru branded bar & screening events at the cinema; this being the first.

IRIS Prize is Cardiff’s international LGBT short film festival. 30 short films are in competition every year for a £30,000 prize fund that allows the winner to make another short film in the UK; this is a great initiative that brings interesting film-makers to make shorts in the UK. Big Finish Presents: UNIT – Extinction

Big Finish have done it again and announced that Kate Stewart and her UNIT team from the Doctor Who TV series will be starring in a brand new series of audio dramas.

This comes after Big Finish secured a new licensing deal with BBC Worldwide.

 

 

Kate is the daughter of Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, and Head of Scientific Research at the Unified Intelligence Taskforce which investigates and confronts alien attacks on the planet Earth. The role is portrayed by Jemma Redgrave on television; and returns for the audio series.

Better Call Saul – Online Comic

AMC has launched an online Better Call Saul comic.

Better Call Saul: Client Development comicTitled ‘Client Development’ spins out of Breaking Bad season 2 episode ‘Better Call Saul‘, and deals with Saul Goodman’s initial investigations into Walt and Jesse.

The artist (Steve Ellis)-  is collaborating with writers Jenn Carroll and Gordon Smith and colourist Jon Haeffner.

Better Call Saul – debuts next week as a Netflix Original – is initially set six years before the events of its sister show.
