Review by Jacob Licklider

Getting David Tennant to reprise his role as the Tenth Doctor is one of the biggest successes in Big Finish’s recent years and after two successful volumes of adventures, they are back with Volume 3. The main draw to this box set is the return of Bernard Cribbins as Wilfred Mott in the first release of the set and as always bringing Tennant and Catherine Tate together will get fans excited. Review: The Third Doctor Adventures (Vol 5)

Review by Michael Goleniewski

The Third Doctor Adventures range has always been a very strong one boasting many memorable stories under its belt. Volume 5, however, is a particularly exciting one as for the first time we not only have an actor taking over the voice of the Third Doctor but also a new actor to play Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart and a new actress for the role of Liz Shaw after the passing of Nicholas Courtney and Caroline John in recent years.

Review: Doctor Who – The Moons of Vulpana

Review by Jacob Licklider

Before getting her chance to write for the Main Range of Big Finish Productions, Emma Reeves wrote several hour-long plays in the Torchwood and New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield Ranges. The Moons of Vulpana is her first audio play to be over an hour in length and perhaps an interesting quirk of that fact is that The Moons of Vulpana does not play out like a traditional four-episode serial. Instead the story almost feels like three smaller stories interweaved to create a story arc spread across one story. This is by no means a slight on Emma Reeves’ ability to write a story, as she breaks up potential monotony of Big Finish’s usual four-episode serial format.

Review: Unit – Incursions

Review by Michael Goleniewski

‘Threats to our planet come in many forms. Some are alien visitations, some lay dormant in Earth itself, and occasionally, danger arrives with a big gun and fantastic hair. Whatever the threat, whoever the enemy, UNIT is ready to defend the world.’

UNIT Series 8 (otherwise known as “Incursions”) is taking a very different place in the UNIT universe compared to its predecessor. According to Big Finish’s free magazine “Vortex”, this set is meant to bring the current era of UNIT to a close with a different primary script editor taking over after a longer than usual break between sets. With no current release date or details set for Series 9, this could be the very last we see of UNIT, Kate-Lethbridge Stewart, and this team for a very long time. Continue reading
