Horror Month – June 2015 Hereis ourreview of one of the big summer horror releases – Insidious Chapter 3by co-editor Lewis Mainwaring
This is the directorial debut from Leigh Whannell (writer of Insidious trilogy & SAW I, II & III).
The third chapter of this film franchise takes the form of a prequel set before the haunting of the Lambert family. This instalment sees Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) reluctantly agreeing to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help the Brenner family (portrayed by Dermot Mulroney and Stefanie Scott) who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity.
We caught up with horror legend Felissa Rose. Best known for her portrayal as Angela Baker (one of the few strong female protagonists in Horror) in the 1983 cult horror Sleepaway Camp and it’s 2008 sequel Return to Sleepaway Camp. She has since appeared in many horror films such as Camp Dread; where she starred alongside Danielle Harris & Eric Roberts.
More recently she appeared in the Hatchet sequel Victor Crowley and the anthology Tales Of Halloween.
Bates Motel (2013 – Present) This series which is a contemporary prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho made its triumphant return with Season 3. The story revolves around young Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) still living with his mother Norma Bates (Vera Farmiga) at the Bates Motel. Without giving too many spoilers this series gets into a lot more of what we know and love about the Norman character from the films and is a true TV masterpiece. Continue reading →
“Rob Zombie is a very cool, mellow, relaxed director who is open to suggestions and ideas and is very easy to work with. I’ve asked many other directors for weapons… I asked him for a gun and he said, “sure, you can have the sheriff’s gun”
That was interesting & I can remember it like yesterday for some reason.
Other than that, for me, it was very much a job. I started working professionally in show business at age 6.
By the time I got Nightmare, I was actually getting a little burned out (pardon the pun, gee I just realized the irony of that comment considering what my character does to herself to stay awake…Hmmm).
Also, because it was a low budget film, there was not a lot of hanging around time as there can be on bigger budget sets. On a lower budget, you just cannot afford to waste time, so I just remember going to the set, doing my job and going home. I lived very close to where we filmed too. Most of the interior shots of the hospital were filmed at the VA hospital in Brentwood where I lived & was raised. Also, in spite of the fact that I grew up in show business, i was actually pretty shy, so i just kind of stayed to myself at that time mostly.Continue reading →
“I think that the best villains don’t intentionally set out to be evil per se, if they believe that their cause is just then their actions are justified. Leatherface certainly falls under this category.”
Unfriended (originally released in 2014 as Cyber-natural at the Fantasia Festival) is a ‘found footage’ supernatural horror film directed by Levan Gabriadze, written by Nelson Greaves, and produced by Timur Bekmambetov, Jason Blum, and Greaves.
“This film is a very unique of the found footage genre; however due to the computer screen aspect of the film I personally couldn’t connect with the characters. I feel that this due lack of character development in the script not the performance. I would still recommend people to see it and I do believe that this film will eventually become a cult favourite like the Blair Witch project.” 3/5 Continue reading →
