The Paternoster Gang: Heritage has been a four set miniseries exploring the characters which Steven Moffat retconned as the Paternoster Gang in The Name of the Doctor and the third set to be released from Big Finish Productions is the first to actually live up to the “heritage” subtitle. Heritage 3 is three stories each taking a look at the family or society that each member of the
Paternoster Gang hails from. It’s also the first set to feel like there may actually be a story arc forming for the next story with hints of a coming apocalypse that Madame Vastra has her own little part to play on. I’d say more on that later, but it is all setup and saved for the final set which has been announced and will be released later this year with a special guest appearance which I will not spoil here. Audio Review: Blake’s 7 – Restoration (Part 3)

Restoration Part 3 is comprised of four episodes, which conclude the current Blake’s 7 mini-series. Set towards the end of the on-screen Series C, the story has seen the crew of the Liberator undertake desperate measures to repair their ship, critically damaged during the recent power struggle between Servalan and the President of the Federation. While the title references the crew’s goal, it also fits the aims of the President; in the wake of recent conflicts, he is striving to re-establish his grip on power.

The television series of Star Cops ended with Commander Nathan Spring posing a question: “Anyone for Mars?”. Now firmly established from a base on the Moon, the ISPF’s remit was set to encompass Mars in a second series. While the show on television never quite made it, fresh from their investigation into the terrorist organisation ‘Mother Earth’, Big Finish’s superb audio continuation of the show has finally made good on that offer. Audio Review: Space 1999 – Breakaway

Created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson in the mid-70s and running for two Space: 1999 told the story of Moonbase Alpha and its three hundred and eleven crewmembers, stranded on the Moon after it broke orbit from the Earth on the fateful date of September 13th. Lovingly reshaped into an audio drama, but keeping true to the spirit of the original, Big Finish have recreated the pilot episode as a launchpad for a new series.

Review: The Companion Chronicles – The First Doctor (Vol 3)

The Companion Chronicles range returns to the era of the First Doctor with the latest Companion Chronicles release, The First Doctor Volume Three. It’s a series that has presented some of the earliest examples of great Doctor Who storytelling with 2017’s Volume 2 containing two of my personal favourite First Doctor adventures in Across the Darkened City and The Plague of Dreams. I’m always glad to see these releases continuing and this particular volume is no exception with a strong theme around the concept of heroes and how they are perceived and seen by those around them. Released alongside the latest audio drama box set, Restoration Part One, Christopher Cooper’s Uprising is a novel set in the early part of Series B. While the audio dramas may be hemmed into a sweet spot of continuity, no such restrictions hamper prose and so the story takes place between the episodes Shadow and Weapon, and features the full, original line-up of Blake, Vila, Avon, Jenna, Gan, Cally and Orac on board the Liberator, with the relentless Space Commander Travis on their trail.
