‘Shooting Clerks’ (Kevin Smith biopic) teaser released!

Scottish production company Auld Reekie Media has released the first teaser trailer for their much anticipated biopic of writer/director Kevin Smith titled ‘Shooting Clerks‘. The film will focus on the production of his 1994 debut hit film Clerks as well as looking into the events that preceded and followed it.

Director Christopher Downie and Producer Brett Murray have previously worked on several Kevin Smith themed projects; most notably the short ‘Get GREEDO!‘ which was posted on Smith’s own ‘Smodco Internet Television‘ YouTube channel.

The cast features actors portraying Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes & many other actors/others involved with the making of Clerks but interestingly also includes cameo and small-role appearances from many original Clerks cast members including Brian O’Hallaran, Marilyn Ghigliotti, Scott SchiaffoErnie O’Donnell and many others associated with Smith. Smith himself is expected to narrate the film.

Production was split between UK & US with principal photography taking place in Scotland while key locations were filmed by a 2nd Unit in and around New Jersey, USA. Funding for for film came from several crowd-funding campaigns as well as individual investors.

Please follow the film-makers Facebook & Twitter for updates on the release of this film.

This release is well timed following the release of Smith’s horror/thriller Tusk, the announcement that the second sequel to Clerks, Clerks III will shoot this year and also amidst the news that Smith is putting together a sequel to his 1995 follow-up film Mallrats.

DVD Review: Zombie Resurrection (2013)

From writing/directing team Andy Phelps & Jake Hawkins comes the British zombie thriller/comedy Zombie Resurrection. Interestingly; this was originally written as a screenplay to sell; but with lack of interest the writers chose to take the project on themselves.

After a short intro scene; we break into an animated title sequence with a booming https://i0.wp.com/roberthood.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Zombie-Resurrection-Mac-and-Zombie.jpgscore…..they are really building it up here. Will it live up to this intro?

This soon establishes itself as an a group survival zombie flick…as the group is travelling to a new encampment in the post zombie apocalypse. However the overtone to begin with is purely comical and farce with accents to match; perhaps taking it’s cues from Shaun of The Dead. Continue reading

Podcasters – What, How & Why?

podcast1The podcasting medium is now as popular and visible as ever; in-part thanks to big-name podcasters such as Kevin Smith, Adam Carolla, Marc Maron & Leo Laporte. However the majority of podcasts are started in obscurity by people with no previous media/radio experience. So why do people do it?

We talked to a group of podcasters from around the world and asked them what their show is, how they created it and why they do it.

In poker they say all you need is a chip & a chair to play. Well I learned in podcasting all you need is a laptop & a mic…”
Doctor Squee’ (Gallifrey Stands)

“I’ve always believed that podcasting needs the content to attract a listener and then loads of personality, truth and storytelling to keep them listening.”
Jason (7 Days A Geek)

“I love podcasting. I love everything about it. It is such a great medium. It takes work and dedication to build an audience but anyone with passion and motivation can create a successful podcast” –

Score – A Film Music Documentary

Coming soon from production company Epicleff Media and Director/Producer Matt Schrader is the much anticipated film ‘SCORE: A Film Music Documentary’.

scoreSo much attention is paid in the media to Actors & Directors; but very little notice is given to the production team behind the scenes that help bring the film together and take very little of the credit for the end result. One such group of un-sung heroes is Composers and this is who this documentary focuses on.

A good or bad score can make or break a film and in some genres is crucial to support the action and/or emotion of the piece. This is no simple task; the composer must shape their score around the director’s vision and work within the constantly evolving nature of a film in production. Continue reading
