We last spoke to ‘Clerks’ actor Scott Schiaffo in 2014 to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the film. We caught up with him again recently following the release of sequel Clerks 3 in which he reprises his role from the original film as the Chewlies Gum Rep.
“For me it is all about being plausible while being entertaining. I did not play it like comedy, I played it like my life was on the line, and the madness that ensued just made it that much more crazed!”
From writer, director and star Kevin Smith (Clerks, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay & Silent Bob Reboot); Clerks III reunites Brian O’Halloran (Clerks franchise), Jeff Anderson (Clerks franchise), Jason Mewes (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Mallrats), Trevor Fehrman (Clerks II) and Rosario Dawson (Death Proof, Sin City, Ahsoka) for another installment, and this time they are back at the Quick Stop in New Jersey – the setting of Smith’s 1994 debut Clerks.
In ‘Vicious Dogs Attack Me In Sleepless Nights of Summer’ his bold collection of ‘prose, tales, and streams of semi-consciousness’, actor and musician Scott Schiaffo (Clerks, Vulgar) takes you through the depths of existential angst, addiction, and near-death experiences. This book reflects a troubling time in a gifted man’s journey. Schiaffo released this book of collected poetry and short stories in 2014. The book is a culmination of material written during 1986 through 1998, when the author was deep in the throes of alcoholism and drug addiction. He has now released a new audio book version for Audible; read by the author himself (also available on CD, Kindle or the original Paperback)

We spend a lot of time on this blog talking about other people’s projects; however this post is about a personal passion project of mine.
I was really inspired by Scottish Indie film-makers AuldReekieMedia (namely director Christopher Downie & producer Brett Murraywho started making YouTube shorts based on works, life & times of writer/director Kevin Smith. Smith is probably my favourite director of all time…I have always loved listening to his Q&As, podcasts and commentary tracks; especially the stories behind making such cult films as Clerks. But now…these guys are bringing these stories to life in film in such an accurate and respectful way.
I even started off the blog properly with my first major article which featured Auld Reekie Media; ‘Kevin Smith, Podcasts & the power of Fandom’so it has been part of the journey of the blog all along. I pick up their story later on with the release of the trailer for ‘Shooting Clerks’; a feature-length biopic of Kevin Smith focussing on the production of the film Clerks, a story I have always loved.
This led me to thinking how I could practically help out the project further with the resources at my disposal. I had already made contact with some of the original Clerks cast members for interviews and I knew a few other people from the project so putting together some kind of long-distance video project seemed feasible. This led to the idea of ‘Shooting Clerks (Kevin Smith Biopic) – A Thank-You’.
Scottish production company Auld Reekie Media has released the second teaser trailer for their much anticipated biopic of writer/director KevinSmith titled ‘Shooting Clerks‘. The film will focus on the production of his 1994 debut hit film Clerks as well as looking into the events that preceded and followed it.

The cast features actors portraying Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes & many other actors/others involved with the making of Clerks but interestingly also includes cameo and small-role appearances from many original Clerks cast members including Brian O’Hallaran, Marilyn Ghigliotti, Scott Schiaffo, Ernie O’Donnelland many others associated with Smith. Smith himself is expected to narrate the film.
Production was split between UK & US with principal photography taking place in Scotland while key locations were filmed by a 2nd Unit in and around New Jersey, USA. Funding for for film came from several crowd-funding campaigns as well as individual investors.
Please follow the film-makers Facebook & Twitter for updates on the release of this film.
This release is well timed following the release of Smith’s horror/thriller Tusk, the announcement that the second sequel to Clerks, Clerks III will shoot this year and also amidst the news that Smith is putting together a sequel to his 1995 follow-up film Mallrats.
